I have the tomtom, and indeed I do not like at all, but my grandmother has the Garmin and use it to go to New York, and it was wonderful. I loved it is soooo easy to use, and is so quick to recalculate if you miss once, or something that recalculates a new route for you in seconds, and my Tom Tom does what it takes forever and is very complicated to use. Im not a big technology person, so I like things that are easy to use, so in my own experience the Garmin Nuvi is the best, and indeed much ive heard people say exactly the same. My cousin has the Magellan and I think she had for like 6 months and broke up she said it was a cheap piece of shit. The Garmin is usually one of the most expensive but its definitely worth the extra money, and I know that this Friday I think WalMart is largely a garmin, $ 89.00 is just like last year when I bought my grandmother who was 300, so that's definitely a good deal. Good luck with that. Hope to find the right one that works for you.
