Garmin 2460lmt Review – A Great Device, Despite A Little Quirks.
<p>I ‘ve been using Garmin 2460lmt gps in town the Boston hometown for around a month, and I really think it deserves a solid 4 stars, but some quirks keep it from earning 5 stars.
I was arguing between this and the 3790 (which ultimately proved prohibitively overpriced). I’m very happy with the large size of the 2460 – the 3790 is nice and slim and pedestrian-style portable but I’ve only used my gps in pedestrian option once. Having a large device in my hand did n’t make a problem for the short little while I was using it.
The Eco-score feature has really gotten me to drive more efficiently (i.e. more slowly) while travelling and I’ve experienced a real increase in my mpg rating (I used to score about 26mpg, now I’m up around 30). I love the “at the pump” feature, which gets across your mpg ratings when you put in milage and fuel stats. The abilitie to customise the home screen is great, too. I’ve added together link pushes button for “Where Am I” and “At the Pump.”.
Bluetooth does work fantastic and I am thrilled making it possible to use the voice controls to access my address book.
Talking of voice commands, it’s a great feature that I am happy to have. I would say it’s about 85 % accurate. It ca n’t hear you if you ‘ve got the radio on (big deal, just turn it down for 5 seconds) and I feel much safer using vocal commands to find my addresses than leaning over the dash to type them in while driving.
Sorry to say in this Garmin 2460lmt review I’ve to be honest, the Garmin keeps unsatisfying me with the way it routes me around big traffic. Most of my driving is on the main road in suburbia and the traffic data is supposedly pulled in over an FM link and in my case is only precise updated if you ‘re within a certain (close) distance of the city of Boston, so usually I find out too late that big traffic is ahead.
It also often suggests I get off the main road and back on a mile down the road, which never does work out in my favor. I ‘m thinking I will shut off the traffic avoidance feature in all. In the Garmin’s defense, when you ‘re in traffic in the Boston area, there’s no way to avoid it in any meaningful way regardless of what gps you have. A few times I have told it to take me home through local roads, and I ‘ve enjoyed the slow and easy scenic drives and have n’t worried about getting lost, but they have n’t really saved me any time around my commute.
On the whole, I’m really happy to have gotten this product, specially since I got it on sale for $ 200. I feel good knowing I have lifetime maps and love the voice command features and the large size. Traffic data has been a letdown but that’s my only major complaint.
